Anthony Louis Mandrea was born on 25 December 1996 in Grasse, France, and is eligible for Algeria through family heritage. He was developed in the French system, passing through Nice and Angers structures, and learned his trade in an environment where goalkeepers are expected to be both shot-stoppers and participants in build-up.
Mandrea's senior path was gradual, with loan spells and reserve football before he established himself more clearly at Caen. In Normandy he became a regular goalkeeper, gaining the match rhythm that had been difficult to secure earlier in his career. His calm personality and consistency made him a logical international option.
By 2026 he remains associated with Caen, providing reliable goalkeeping in French football. His club career is not built on glamour, but on the steady accumulation of senior starts, command of the penalty area and the week-to-week responsibility that comes with being a first-choice goalkeeper.
He made his Algeria debut in June 2022 in a friendly win over Iran and soon became part of the post-2019 AFCON transition. Mandrea featured through AFCON and World Cup qualifying cycles, competing for the number-one shirt as Algeria sought stability after missing the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. His presence helped widen the goalkeeper pool before the 2026 tournament.
Standing around 1.86 m, Mandrea is a right-footed goalkeeper with good reflexes, a composed temperament and solid handling. He is less of an aggressive sweeper than the most modern elite keepers, but he is dependable on his line. His style is comparable to Steve Mandanda in its calm French-school fundamentals, with a more understated public profile.
