Anthony Martial was born on 5 December 1995 in Massy, Essonne, France. He came through the youth ranks at Les Ulis before joining Lyon's academy at the age of 14, where he scored 32 goals in 21 under-17 matches. After a brief senior spell at Lyon, he moved to Monaco in 2013 and developed into one of Ligue 1's most promising attackers, scoring nine goals in 36 league appearances in his second season.
Martial joined Manchester United in September 2015 for an initial fee of £36 million — the highest fee ever paid for a teenager at the time. He made an immediate impression, scoring on his debut against Liverpool and winning the Premier League Player of the Month award for September 2015. He went on to win the FA Cup that same season, later adding the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League under José Mourinho. His best goalscoring campaign came in 2019–20, when he netted 23 times across all competitions and was voted Manchester United Players' Player of the Year. A loan spell at Sevilla in 2022 and a subsequent move to AEK Athens followed before he joined Liga MX side Monterrey in 2025.
A pacy, technically skilled forward capable of playing across the front line, Martial earned the 2015 Golden Boy Award as Europe's best under-21 player. He made his senior debut for France in September 2015 and appeared in the UEFA Euro 2016 final, going on to earn 30 international caps.
Monterrey represents the latest chapter in Martial's career as he looks to rediscover consistent form at club level.
