Marquinhos (full name Marcos Aoás Corrêa) was born on 14 May 1994 in Brazil and came through the academy at Corinthians, where he was part of the squad that won the 2012 Copa Libertadores. That same year he moved to Roma on loan, quickly establishing himself in central defence and playing in the Coppa Italia final before Paris Saint-Germain signed him in July 2013 for around €31.4 million — one of the highest fees ever paid for a player under the age of 20 at the time.
His decade-plus at PSG has defined his career. He became club captain in September 2020 following Thiago Silva's departure, and in the 2024–25 season he led the club to their first-ever UEFA Champions League title, a 5–0 win over Inter Milan that completed a continental treble. In total he has won a record 10 Ligue 1 titles and holds the all-time appearance record for PSG with over 500 matches.
A composed and technically assured centre-back, Marquinhos reads the game well and is comfortable contributing in build-up play as well as fulfilling defensive duties. He made his senior international debut for Brazil in November 2013 and has gone on to earn over 80 caps, representing his country at two FIFA World Cups (2018 and 2022), winning the 2019 Copa América, and claiming a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Although listed on this site as an attacker, Marquinhos plays as a centre-back and captain at Arsenal, bringing proven experience at the highest level of European club football.
