Mykhailo Mudryk was born on 5 January 2001 in Berestyn, Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine. He began his footballing education at Metalist Kharkiv in 2010 before moving to Dnipro's academy in 2014, and then to Shakhtar Donetsk's setup in 2016. After loan spells at Arsenal Kyiv and Desna Chernihiv helped him gain senior experience, he broke through convincingly at Shakhtar under manager Roberto De Zerbi, who played a key role in developing his confidence and ability.
The 2022–23 season at Shakhtar was the one that brought Mudryk to widespread attention. He scored seven goals and provided six assists in just 12 matches, including a goal and two assists in a 4–1 Champions League win over RB Leipzig, earning him the Ukrainian Footballer of the Year award. In January 2023, Chelsea signed him on an eight-and-a-half-year contract for an initial fee of €70 million, making him the most expensive Ukrainian footballer in history.
A direct and rapid left winger with the ability to create chances from wide areas, Mudryk made his Chelsea debut against Liverpool and scored his first goal for the club in a 2–0 win over Fulham in October 2023. He also helped Chelsea win the UEFA Conference League in the 2024–25 season.
Mudryk made his senior international debut for Ukraine in June 2022 and scored the decisive goal in the Euro 2024 qualifying play-off final against Iceland, helping Ukraine reach the tournament. He represented Ukraine at UEFA Euro 2024. As of late 2024, however, he is serving a four-year ban from football following a positive doping test, with the suspension running until 2028.
