Jorge Salvador Murrugarra Torres was born on 22 March 1997 in Lima, Peru. He came through the domestic ranks with Deportivo Coopsol and Universidad Técnica de Cajamarca, building himself as a hard-working central midfielder before reaching a bigger stage.
Murrugarra's move to Universitario de Deportes was the key step of his career. At Universitario he became a valuable squad midfielder, winning domestic honours and offering intensity, coverage and ball recovery in matches where the team needed control without losing aggression.
By 2026 he remained with Universitario, still used as a central or defensive midfielder who can protect the defence and add energy. He is not always the headline player, but he is the type of reliable squad piece that title-chasing teams need across a long season.
For Peru he entered the senior squad conversation in the mid-2020s, including 2026 qualifying-period call-ups. His chance came as Peru looked for fresh midfield legs and alternatives to the long-serving core of Tapia, Yotún, Aquino and Cartagena.
At around 1.80 m, Murrugarra is a right-footed midfielder whose main qualities are stamina, tackling and tactical obedience. His style resembles Wilder Cartagena in its ball-winning focus, with a little of Renato Tapia's defensive responsibility but less build-up authority.
