Memphis Depay was born on 13 February 1994 in Moordrecht, Netherlands, to a Ghanaian father and a Dutch mother. He came through PSV Eindhoven's youth ranks and won the Eredivisie in 2014–15 before Manchester United signed him for around €34 million in summer 2015. After two challenging seasons in Manchester he moved to Lyon in January 2017 for €16 million, where he produced four highly productive Ligue 1 seasons.
In summer 2021 Barcelona signed Depay on a free transfer, and in January 2023 he moved to Atletico Madrid for €3 million. After 18 months in Spain he made the unusual choice in September 2024 of joining Corinthians in Brazil's Série A on a free transfer — a move that has since proved highly productive. He scored 7 league goals in 11 Brazilian Série A matches in 2024 and a further 6 in 23 league matches across 2025, plus 3 goals in the Copa do Brasil and Conmebol competitions, and helped lift the Paulista A1 title in 2025.
For the Netherlands, Depay is captain. His 8 goals and 4 assists across 8 European Qualifying matches in 2024 made him one of the most prolific scorers in 2026 World Cup qualifying, and he scored at the 2024 European Championship.
A pacey, two-footed forward with the technical quality to play as a left winger, attacking midfielder or false 9, Depay has been the Netherlands' senior No. 9 across two decades. He is set to lead the Oranje attack at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a senior leader.
