Sergio Ramón Rochet Álvarez was born on 23 March 1993 in Nueva Palmira. Danubio developed him before European spells at AZ Alkmaar and Sivasspor broadened his education.
His return to Nacional in 2019 transformed his career. He became number one, won domestic titles and built the authority that took him into the national team.
Internacional signed him in 2023, placing him in Brazilian and continental pressure. By May 2026 he remained a senior goalkeeper there, built on reliability rather than spectacle.
For Uruguay he debuted in 2022 and succeeded Fernando Muslera as first choice at the 2022 World Cup. He continued through the 2024 Copa América and 2026 qualifying cycle.
Around 1.91 m and right-footed, Rochet has size, calm handling and command of the area. He is closer to mature Muslera or Diego Alves than to a high-risk sweeper.
