Willi Orbán was born on 3 November 1992 in Kaiserslautern, Germany, to a Hungarian family, and chose to represent Hungary internationally rather than Germany. A commanding central defender, he joined RB Leipzig from FC Kaiserslautern in 2016 and became one of the most important figures in the club's rapid rise from the second division to the summit of German football.
At Leipzig he has been the defensive leader across multiple Bundesliga seasons, helping the club finish in the top four on numerous occasions, win the DFB-Pokal in 2022, and reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stages. A left-footed ball-playing centre-back, Orbán is comfortable stepping out of defence to initiate build-up play — a trait that fits perfectly within Leipzig's aggressive, high-press tactical model under managers from Ralf Rangnick through to Marco Rose and beyond.
For Hungary he debuted in 2017 and became the defensive cornerstone of the national team's resurgence. He was captain at Euro 2020 (played in 2021), where Hungary were placed in the group of death with France, Germany and Portugal — and produced an iconic performance in the 1-1 draw with France in a packed Puskás Aréna. He captained the team again at Euro 2024 and led Hungary through the historic 2026 World Cup qualification campaign — the country's first since 1986.
Standing 1.87 m, Orbán is a dominant aerial defender who reads the game well and distributes calmly under pressure. His decade-plus of Bundesliga football has sharpened him into one of the most technically accomplished defenders in Hungarian football history. He is the captain and defensive identity of a generation-defining Hungarian national team.
