Yunus Dimoara Musah was born on 29 November 2002 in New York City to Ghanaian parents. The family moved to Castelfranco Veneto in northern Italy when he was a child and later relocated to London, where he joined Arsenal's academy. He spent six years at Hale End before Valencia signed him in 2019 for the senior step.
He made his Valencia first-team debut in September 2020 at seventeen and quickly became a regular in La Liga, completing more than 100 appearances for the club over three seasons. In summer 2023 AC Milan signed him for around €20 million plus add-ons, and across two seasons in Serie A he established himself as a high-energy box-to-box midfielder in a midfield rotation alongside Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic.
In summer 2025 he moved to Atalanta on a permanent transfer, joining a midfield environment where Gasperini's high-pressing demands fit his ball-carrying profile.
Eligible for Ghana, England, Italy and the United States through birth, residency and parents, Musah committed to the United States in March 2021 and has since been a regular U.S. national team fixture. He played at the 2022 World Cup as one of the youngest American starters and is expected to be a central piece of the squad as the U.S. co-hosts the 2026 World Cup.
Standing 1.78 m, Musah is a powerful, two-footed central midfielder whose first-touch, line-breaking carrying and recovery sprints make him a press-resistant connector between defence and attack. His combination of physical strength and ball comfort has drawn comparisons with Yaya Touré in style.
