Ismaïla Sarr was born on 25 February 1998 in Saint-Louis, Senegal. He was developed by Génération Foot and moved to Metz, following the academy's established route into French professional football. His speed and bravery in one-versus-one situations were visible from his teenage seasons.
Rennes signed him in 2017, and he became one of Ligue 1's most exciting wide attackers, winning the 2018-19 Coupe de France. Watford paid a major fee for him in 2019, and although the club moved between the Premier League and Championship, Sarr's pace and match-winning ability remained obvious.
After a spell at Marseille, he joined Crystal Palace in 2024 and brought his transition threat back to the Premier League. By the 2026 cycle he was a Palace forward and one of Senegal's most established wide attacking options.
For Senegal he debuted in 2016 and has been a regular through the 2018 World Cup, the 2019 AFCON final, the 2021 AFCON title and the 2022 World Cup. His penalty against Ecuador in Qatar was one of the key moments in Senegal's group-stage qualification.
Standing around 1.85 m, Sarr is a right-footed winger most dangerous from the right or in open space. His long-stride acceleration and direct dribbling recall a taller version of Sadio Mané, while his ability to stretch a defensive line gives Senegal a weapon even in matches where possession is limited.
