Kota Tawaratsumida was born on 14 May 2004 in Kanagawa and is a one-club FC Tokyo academy product. He made his J1 League debut as a teenager and quickly developed into a creative wide attacking midfielder with the technical quality to stand out in a senior side at a young age.
His 2024 season established him as one of FC Tokyo's most important attackers: 33 J1 appearances with 2 goals and 3 assists. The 2025 season continued his trajectory with 34 J1 appearances and 2 goals. By age 21 he was earning consistent senior Japan call-ups, including a starting role at the 2025 EAFF E-1 Football Championship, where Japan won the tournament.
A two-footed left-sided attacker with elite close control, Tawaratsumida is one of the most exciting young creative talents in the J1 League. He has the silky technical quality and decision-making to project to a higher European level in time.
He won the EAFF E-1 Football Championship with Japan in 2025 and has continued in Japan friendly squads in 2025. With the demands of the international game increasing, Tawaratsumida is one of the wider candidates for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as a young, J-League-based attacking option.
