Michy Batshuayi was born on 2 October 1993 in Brussels, Belgium. Of Congolese heritage, he developed through the youth ranks at Standard Liège before emerging as one of the most prolific strikers in Ligue 1 during his time at Marseille, where he scored 17 league goals in his final season and attracted the attention of Premier League clubs.
Chelsea signed him in the summer of 2016 for around £33 million. His Chelsea career was characterised by impact goals in important moments — he famously scored the title-clinching goal in 2016-17 — but also by fierce competition for the number nine role that led to a string of loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace and Bayer Leverkusen. At Dortmund he scored nine Bundesliga goals in half a season and proved his quality at the highest level. He joined Fenerbahçe in 2022 and Eintracht Frankfurt thereafter, where he continued to contribute goals from the bench and as a starter.
For Belgium he has been a long-standing member of the Golden Generation, debuting in 2012 and going on to win over 40 caps. He featured at the 2018 World Cup — where Belgium finished third — and 2022 World Cup, contributing as a forward option off the bench. He is one of the more experienced strikers in Domenico Tedesco's squad for the 2026 cycle.
Standing 1.81 m, Batshuayi is a physical, instinctive centre-forward whose movement in the box, aerial strength and ability to convert chances under pressure make him a reliable impact substitute as much as a starting option. His talent has never been in doubt; consistent club minutes have been the variable in an otherwise successful career.
