Mikkel Damsgaard was born on 3 July 2000 in Jyllinge, Denmark. He developed at Roskilde FK and Lyngby BK before Sampdoria signed him in 2020, recognising his technical quality as an attacking midfielder. A breakout Euro 2020 provided his global launchpad: he scored directly from a free-kick against England in the semi-final and was one of the tournament's most exciting young players, before an ACL injury cut short his momentum.
Brentford signed him in summer 2022 for around £ 16 million. Under Thomas Frank's progressive system at Gtech Community Stadium, Damsgaard found a natural environment for his technical gifts — an intelligent, dynamic system that rewarded his ability to find pockets of space and deliver both goals and assists. He became a key part of Brentford's Premier League identity, with moments of individual quality that elevated the team significantly.
His consistent performances for Brentford made him one of the more sought-after attacking midfielders in the Premier League, and he continued developing his end-product through the 2024-25 season. The trajectory suggested a move to a larger club remained a real possibility.
For Denmark, Damsgaard debuted in 2020 and memorably starred at Euro 2020 before the injury setback. He returned strongly and was part of Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, providing Denmark with a technically gifted number ten option who can also play wide.
Standing 1.77 m, Damsgaard is a right-footed attacking midfielder with exceptional close control, vision and the technique to score and create from tight situations. He is among the most naturally talented Danish attacking players of his generation.
