Matteo Darmian was born on 2 December 1989 in Legnano, near Milan, and joined AC Milan's academy in 2000. After a senior debut in 2006 he spent loan spells at Padova and Palermo before settling at Torino from 2011 to 2015, where his standout 2014-15 season — including a place among Europe's most prolific tacklers — led to a transfer to Manchester United for around £12.7 million.
In four seasons at United he won the FA Cup (2015-16) and the Europa League (2016-17), playing across the back four. He moved to Parma in 2019, helping the club, and then in October 2020 joined Inter Milan on loan, with the deal made permanent in early 2021. At Inter he has won three Serie A titles (2020-21, 2023-24, 2025-26), multiple Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana trophies, and reached two Champions League finals.
For Italy, Darmian made his senior debut in 2014 and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup, Euro 2016 and Euro 2024, accumulating around 45 caps. He was a regular member of squads under multiple national-team coaches.
Standing 1.83 m and right-footed, he is a versatile defender comfortable as a right-back, right wing-back, left-back or right-sided centre-back, and is valued for his tactical reliability, calm decision-making and lack of ego — qualities that have kept him in elite squads for more than a decade.
