Sota Nakamura was born on 15 October 2002 in Takasaki, Gunma. He came through Meiji University and signed his first professional contract with Sanfrecce Hiroshima in January 2025 — a relatively late professional debut for an elite player.
His 2025 Sanfrecce season has been outstanding for a debut professional year: 32 J1 League matches with 6 goals and 6 assists, 8 AFC Champions League Elite matches with an assist, plus Super Cup honours. He is one of the most productive young J1 attackers among 2025 newcomers.
For Japan, Nakamura earned his A-team debut and won the EAFF E-1 Football Championship in 2025 — scoring a goal in 2 tournament matches and contributing 5 goals plus 6 assists across 26 friendly appearances in the calendar year. The international goal output for a debut year is exceptional.
A 168cm two-footed left-sided attacker with elite ball-control, vision and the goal-scoring instinct of a creator who can finish, Nakamura is one of the most exciting young Japanese attackers to debut professionally in 2025. He is in the wider 2026 FIFA World Cup squad picture as one of the breakout names of the year.
