Sho Sasaki was born on 2 October 1989 in Zama, Kanagawa. He started his professional career at Ventforet Kofu, where he won the J2 League in 2012. In January 2015 he moved to Sanfrecce Hiroshima — and has remained a one-club centre-back since.
At Sanfrecce, Sasaki has been an enduring senior figure. He was part of the squad that won the J1 League in 2015, the Super Cup in 2016, the 2022 J.League Cup, and the 2025 Super Cup. Across 2024 and 2025 he has played 36 J1 matches with 3 goals (2024) and 37 J1 matches with 1 goal (2025) — outstanding longevity for a centre-back well into his mid-30s.
For Japan, Sasaki has been a senior call-up since the late 2010s and won the EAFF E-1 Football Championship in 2022.
A two-footed senior centre-back with elite reading, the leadership presence of a long-serving captain, and the technical security to play out from defence, Sasaki is one of the most experienced J1 defenders of the last decade. He is in line for the wider 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as a senior leader option.
