Vitor Hugo Pereira de Souza — known as Vitinho — was born on 23 July 1999 in Itatim, in the state of Bahia, Brazil. He came through the youth setup of Vitória and was sold to Burnley in summer 2018, although work-permit and squad-size constraints meant he played most of his early career on loan at Cercle Brugge in Belgium, where he developed into a senior wide defender.
After loan spells at Bursaspor, Cercle Brugge and finally Royal Antwerp, where he won the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League title, he signed permanently for Antwerp before returning to Burnley after their 2023-24 Premier League promotion. He has continued as a senior right-back option for Burnley across their Premier League and EFL Championship campaigns.
His career has been shaped by patient development across multiple European leagues rather than a single defining transfer. The Belgian Pro League title at Antwerp remains the most significant trophy of his career to date.
For Brazil he received his senior debut in 2024 under Dorival Júnior, becoming one of the depth right-back options as the national team rebuilt after the 2022 World Cup. He has been a senior squad presence through the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign on a rotation basis.
Standing 1.78 m, Vitinho is a right-footed full-back whose defensive consistency, willingness to engage one-versus-one and crossing ability profile him as a Belgian Pro League-developed senior right-back. He represents the patient European-development path that complements the more headline-grabbing direct-to-Big-5 transfers among Brazilian wide defenders.
