Bruno Guimarães Rodriguez Moura was born on 16 November 1997 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He came through the academy of Audax SP in the São Paulo region before moving to the senior squad of Athletico Paranaense in 2017, where two strong seasons in the Brazilian top flight — including the 2018 Copa Sudamericana title — turned him into one of the most coveted holding midfielders in South America.
In January 2020 Lyon signed him for around €20 million. Two and a half seasons in Ligue 1 confirmed him as a complete number eight, comfortable both at the base of midfield and as a box-to-box runner, and in January 2022 Newcastle United broke their long-standing transfer caution to bring him to St James' Park for roughly £40 million.
At Newcastle he has been the central figure of Eddie Howe's midfield. He helped the club reach the 2023 Carabao Cup final and qualify for the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League — Newcastle's first since 2003 — and has remained a near-ever-present in the Premier League side, captaining the team on numerous occasions when Jamaal Lascelles or Kieran Trippier have been absent.
For Brazil he debuted in 2020 and quickly became a regular. He won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the under-23 side and has been a fixture in the senior squad through the 2022 World Cup, the 2024 Copa América and the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, frequently wearing the captain's armband under Dorival Júnior.
Standing 1.82 m, Bruno is a left-footed two-way midfielder whose passing range, press resistance and ability to drive forward with the ball draw comparisons to a younger Yaya Touré. He combines a deep-lying playmaker's tempo control with the lung capacity of a true number eight, the profile around which both Newcastle and Brazil have built their midfields.
