Lucas Vázquez Iglesias was born on 1 July 1991 in Curtis, Galicia, Spain, and joined Real Madrid's youth system in 2007. After progressing through Real Madrid Castilla and a 2014-15 loan at RCD Espanyol, Real Madrid exercised its buyback clause and brought him into the senior squad in 2015.
Across ten seasons at the Bernabéu (2015-2025) he made more than 400 appearances in all competitions and built one of the most decorated trophy cabinets in modern football: five UEFA Champions League titles (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2021-22, 2023-24), four La Liga titles, multiple Copa del Rey, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup wins. In summer 2025 he left as a free agent and joined Bayer Leverkusen on a contract through 2027.
For Spain he had no youth-team caps yet was included in the Euro 2016 squad as an uncapped player. He earned 9 caps between 2016 and 2018, featuring at Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup.
A 1.73 m two-footed wide player, Vázquez has played as a right winger and as a right-back across his career, often used as Real Madrid's "modern utility" piece off the bench in elite finals. At Leverkusen he provides senior leadership and Champions League experience to a younger squad.
