Robert Andrich was born on 22 September 1994 in Potsdam, Germany. He came through Hertha BSC's academy without making senior appearances, then progressed through several lower-division clubs — Dynamo Dresden, SV Wehen Wiesbaden and 1. FC Heidenheim — before joining Union Berlin in 2019. He made his Bundesliga debut for Union on 18 August 2019.
In summer 2021 he joined Bayer Leverkusen on a five-year deal through 2026, and he was a defining figure as Leverkusen won the historic unbeaten 2023-24 Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal, while reaching the Europa League final (lost to Atalanta). In August 2024 he extended his contract through 2028, and was named Leverkusen captain ahead of the 2025-26 season.
For Germany he made his senior debut in November 2023 and played in all five of Germany's matches at Euro 2024 before elimination in the quarter-finals. He has earned around 20 senior caps.
Standing 1.86 m and right-footed, Andrich is a hard-working, highly versatile midfielder who can play as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder, sweeper or even centre-back, providing tactical flexibility — exactly the profile that became central to Xabi Alonso's title-winning system at Leverkusen and remains key under successive coaches.
