Arsenal are champions of England again. After three seasons of finishing second, with a run of near-misses that had started to define the club, Mikel Arteta's side finally got over the line to win the 2025-26 Premier League. It is their first league title in 22 years.
The title was confirmed on the night of 19 May (20 May Japan time). Arsenal had already done their job with a 1-0 win over Burnley, and the mathematics were completed when Manchester City could only draw 1-1 at Bournemouth, leaving Arsenal four points clear with a game to spare.
It is Arsenal's 14th English top-flight title, and the first since the 2003-04 "Invincibles" under Arsène Wenger. For a generation of supporters, this is the first league championship they have seen.
This title carries extra weight because of how Arsenal got here. They were runners-up in each of the previous three seasons, including a 2023-24 campaign lost to City by just two points. The pressure to convert sustained excellence into a trophy was enormous.
The reaction said it all. Arsène Wenger, the last man to win the league for the club, sent his blessing: "You did it. Champions go on when others stop. This is your time. Now, go on and enjoy every moment." Midfielder Declan Rice kept it shorter on Instagram: "I told you all.. it's done."
Arsenal's summer 2025 rebuild paid off immediately. Striker Viktor Gyökeres, signed from Sporting, led the line and finished as the club's top scorer.
The attack ran through captain Bukayo Saka and skipper Martin Ødegaard, with Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard, Mikel Merino and Declan Rice all chipping in across the season.
The foundation, though, was defensive. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães anchored the league's meanest defence, and goalkeeper David Raya won the Golden Glove for a third consecutive season. Midfield control came from Rice alongside summer signing Martín Zubimendi. There was even a record along the way: 16-year-old Max Dowman became the youngest title winner in Premier League history.
This is Arsenal's 100th consecutive season in the English top flight, and the league title may not be the end of it. The Gunners came through the Champions League league phase unbeaten and reached the final, their first since 2006, where they meet Paris Saint-Germain on 30 May. The one blemish was the EFL Cup final, lost 0-2 to City.
For now, though, the wait is over. Arsenal are champions.
