Alexander Isak was born on 21 September 1999 in Stockholm, Sweden, to Eritrean parents. He came through AIK Stockholm and made his debut at 16 — among the youngest senior debutants in Allsvenskan history. In January 2017 Borussia Dortmund signed him for €8.6 million. After loan time at Willem II, he moved permanently to Real Sociedad for €6.5 million in summer 2019.
Isak's three seasons at La Real produced standout output, including the Copa del Rey in 2019–21. In August 2022 Newcastle signed him for around €70 million. His Newcastle career was outstanding: 31 Premier League matches with 21 goals in 2023–24 and 34 league matches with 23 goals in 2024–25 — top-four Premier League goalscorer level. He won the EFL Cup in 2024–25 with Newcastle.
In September 2025 Liverpool signed Isak as a marquee transfer. His Liverpool debut has been steady as he settles: 13 Premier League matches with 3 goals and an assist, plus 7 UEFA Champions League appearances and a EFL Cup goal across the first half of 2025–26.
For Sweden, Isak has been the senior team's goal-scoring engine for years. He scored 4 goals in 4 UEFA Nations League matches in 2024 and continues to be the focal point of Sweden's attack. A 192cm two-footed forward with elite finishing, physical presence and intelligent off-ball movement, Isak is the senior No. 9 of Sweden's 2026 World Cup squad alongside Viktor Gyökeres.
