José Ángel Esmorís Tasende, known as Angeliño, was born on 4 January 1997 in Coristanco, Galicia, Spain. He came through Manchester City's academy from 2013 and embarked on a long loan circuit through New York City FC, Girona, Mallorca and NAC Breda.
His breakthrough came at PSV Eindhoven (2018-2019), where he was named Eredivisie Talent of the Season and selected to the Team of the Season. Manchester City exercised a buyback clause in 2019 and he won the 2019 FA Community Shield, before in January 2020 joining RB Leipzig on loan, then permanently in February 2021. At Leipzig he was a key contributor as the club reached its first Champions League semi-final, won the 2021-22 DFB-Pokal and was named to the 2020-21 Bundesliga Team of the Season. Loans to TSG Hoffenheim and Galatasaray followed, and in January 2024 he joined Roma on loan, with the deal made permanent on 30 May 2024 for around €5 million.
For Spain, Angeliño made his senior debut in the late 2010s and continues to be considered for senior call-ups when fit.
Standing just 1.71 m, Angeliño is an attack-minded left-back / left wing-back built around stamina, dribbling and crossing — exactly the kind of dynamic, possession-heavy fullback Roma have wanted on the left under modern coaches.
