Jonas Hofmann was born on 14 July 1992 in Heidelberg, Germany, and started at FC Rot before joining TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's youth academy in 2004. In 2011 he signed for Borussia Dortmund and made his Bundesliga debut in December 2012, with a brief loan to Mainz in 2014-15.
In January 2016 he transferred to Borussia Mönchengladbach for around €5.5 million and spent seven productive seasons. In July 2023 Bayer Leverkusen activated his release clause for around €10 million, and he was a key figure in the historic 2023-24 unbeaten Bundesliga title win plus DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup.
For Germany he progressed through U18 and U21 before earning senior caps from 2020. He played at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, and has earned around 25 caps with multiple goals.
A 1.76 m attacking midfielder / right wing-back, Hofmann combines pace, technical close control, late runs and a confident shot — a profile that made him a key piece in Xabi Alonso's possession system at Leverkusen.
Off the pitch he owns three Subway franchises in the Heidelberg area, demonstrating an entrepreneurial side alongside his playing career.
