Real Madrid won their 15th European Cup / Champions League title in 2024-25. The next-closest club is AC Milan on 7. No other club in football's open era is as decorated in one competition.
1956-60: The Di Stéfano five-peat. Real won the inaugural five European Cups in a row. The competition was smaller (16 clubs, knockout format) but the dominance was real. Di Stéfano, Puskás, Gento — the line-up still gets quoted in tactical histories.
1966: The "Yé-yé" generation. A sixth title from a younger, less-decorated squad. Their average age was around 24. Often forgotten but historically the bridge between Di Stéfano and the long-wait era.
1998-2002: The Galácticos run-up. Real won the 1998, 2000, and 2002 finals — the latter with the famous Zidane volley against Bayer Leverkusen. After 32 years without the trophy, three in five seasons.
2014-2018: The Cristiano Ronaldo dominance. Four titles in five years, including three in a row (2016, 2017, 2018) — the first club to do that in the Champions League era. Carlo Ancelotti (2014), Zinedine Zidane (2016-18).
2022 + 2024-25: The Ancelotti II revival. Different squad, different decade, same coach. 14th title in 2022, 15th in 2024-25. The 2022 semi-final comeback against Manchester City defines the modern Real myth.
Three structural reasons:
Real start 2026-27 as defending champions, with Ancelotti now coaching Brazil and an expected Xabi Alonso or successor in charge. The dynasty has refreshed itself this often — banking on it again isn't crazy.
