Hugo Souza de Oliveira was born on 31 January 1999 in Belford Roxo, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He came through the youth setup of Flamengo and made his senior debut for the club in 2020 during the COVID-19 era, going on to play more than thirty matches across various seasons before falling out of the goalkeeping rotation.
After a loan to Chaves in Portugal in 2022-23 and a brief return to Flamengo, he transferred to Corinthians on loan in early 2024 and the move was made permanent later that year. The change of environment revived his career and he immediately became Corinthians' first-choice goalkeeper, helping the historic Paulista club through a turbulent ownership period.
At Corinthians he has been the senior figure in a defensive group that has rebuilt under multiple head coaches, and his shot-stopping performances have repeatedly been cited as decisive in retaining the team's place in the Brazilian top flight. He has earned the nickname "Diabo Loiro" (Blond Devil) from the Corinthians supporters.
For Brazil he debuted in October 2024 under Dorival Júnior, becoming one of the rotation goalkeeper options behind Bento, Alisson and Ederson. He has continued through the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign as the third or fourth keeper depending on availability.
Standing 1.93 m, Hugo Souza is a right-footed goalkeeper whose reflexes, command of the penalty area and willingness to play out from the back fit the contemporary Brazilian goalkeeping template. He profiles as a developmental option behind Alisson and Ederson, with the body size of a classic shot-stopper and modern footwork added on top.
