Koki Ogawa was born on 8 August 1997 in Kanagawa, Japan, and came through Júbilo Iwata's youth ranks. After a loan spell at Mito Hollyhock and developing into one of Júbilo's senior strikers, he won the J2 League with Júbilo in 2021. In January 2022 Yokohama FC signed him on a free transfer, where he was outstanding in J2: 41 J2 matches with 26 goals in 2022 — making him one of the league's top scorers.
In summer 2023 NEC Nijmegen of the Eredivisie signed Ogawa on loan, with a permanent move in summer 2024. His Eredivisie career has been highly productive. The 2023–24 season produced 32 league matches with 11 goals; the 2024–25 season brought 24 matches with 7 goals; and 2025–26 has continued the trend with 24 Eredivisie matches and 8 goals plus 3 KNVB Beker matches with a goal — consistent senior striker output.
For Japan, Ogawa made his A-team debut and continues to feature in friendlies. He scored a goal in 4 friendlies in 2025.
A 186cm two-footed centre forward with elite hold-up play, aerial presence and the goal-scoring instinct of a senior striker, Ogawa has become one of the J1 / Eredivisie's most reliable goalscorers. He is a strong candidate for the 2026 FIFA World Cup squad as a senior striker option behind Ueda, Hosoya and Goto.
