Mark Anthony McKenzie was born on 25 February 1999 in Maryland, USA. He grew up in the Philadelphia area and came through the Philadelphia Union academy, making his MLS debut for the first team in 2019. McKenzie quickly established himself as one of the most composed young central defenders in the league, combining good positional sense with calm ball distribution from the back.
In January 2021 he made the move to Europe, joining Belgian side K.A.S. Eupen on a permanent deal. He spent two solid seasons gaining European experience in the Belgian Pro League before a further move brought him to Toulouse FC in France's Ligue 1 for the 2023-24 season, where he continued to develop as a reliable left-footed centre-back in a league of higher intensity.
McKenzie has remained with Toulouse into the 2025-26 campaign, establishing himself as a consistent starter for the Ligue 1 side. His ability to carry the ball out of defence and his comfort in a high defensive line have made him one of the more technically assured American defenders operating in Europe.
For the US Men's National Team, McKenzie debuted in 2020 and has been a regular squad member since. He has featured across the 2021 and 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cups, the 2024 Copa América held on home soil, and continued into the 2026 World Cup qualifying cycle. As one of the older members of the centre-back pool, he brings tournament experience to a unit that also includes younger options.
Standing 1.84 m, McKenzie is a composed, technically-minded centre-back who prefers to play his way out of pressure rather than clear the ball long. His reading of the game and steady temperament draw comparisons with fellow USMNT defenders who have forged careers in European leagues. He is a reliable option for a US side building toward co-hosting the 2026 World Cup.
