Norberto Murara Neto was born on 19 July 1989 in Araxá, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He came through the youth setup at Cruzeiro before moving to Athletico Paranaense, where he made his professional debut in 2009 and established himself as first choice the following season.
After joining Fiorentina in January 2011, Neto developed steadily in Serie A before earning a move to Juventus in 2015. At Juventus he served as backup to Gianluigi Buffon in the league but started every Coppa Italia match across both of his seasons, collecting back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia doubles in 2015–16 and 2016–17. He then spent two seasons as first-choice goalkeeper at Valencia before moving to Barcelona in 2019 as cover for Marc-André ter Stegen.
A reliable shot-stopper who has proven capable in both starting and backup roles at the highest level, Neto joined Bournemouth on a free transfer in August 2022, eventually becoming club captain in 2023.
On 30 August 2024, he joined Arsenal on a season-long loan, making his sole appearance for the club in a Champions League match against Girona in January 2025. He has since signed a two-year contract with Brazilian club Botafogo.
For the Brazil national team, Neto was first called up in September 2010 but had to wait until 12 September 2018 to earn his senior debut, starting a 5–0 friendly win over El Salvador. He also won a silver medal with the under-23 side at the 2012 London Olympics.
