Otabek Shukurov was born on 22 June 1996 in Uzbekistan and grew into one of the defining midfielders of the country's modern era. He came through Mash'al Mubarek and Bunyodkor before establishing himself as a composed central midfielder, technically good enough to play forward early and disciplined enough to hold the team's structure.
His middle career was shaped by a long and successful period in the United Arab Emirates with Sharjah, where he won domestic honours and became one of the more respected Uzbek exports in Gulf football. He later played in Turkey with Fatih Karagumruk and Kayserispor, then moved through Saudi Arabia with Al Fayha, experiences that broadened his range against different tactical and physical styles.
In October 2025 he joined Baniyas in the UAE Pro League. As of May 2026 he is a Baniyas midfielder, returning to a league where he has already proven he can control tempo and compete against technically strong foreign players. His club career has made him one of Uzbekistan's most seasoned midfielders outside the domestic system.
For Uzbekistan he debuted in 2016 and has been a long-term midfield lynchpin. He played in Asian Cup campaigns, including the 2023 tournament in Qatar, and was central to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Uzbekistan's first finals appearance was built around balance: Shukurov helped provide that balance between the attacking talents ahead of him and the defensive line behind.
Shukurov is a right-footed central midfielder, usually a six or eight, with a clean passing base, strong set-piece delivery and calm defensive positioning. His style is often comparable to a less vertical version of Marcelo Brozovic: he does not need constant dribbles to influence matches, because he controls angles, tempo and the moments when Uzbekistan can breathe in possession.
