Seo Min-woo was born on 12 March 1998 in South Korea and developed through Korean school and university football before entering the professional game with Gangwon FC. His early career was shaped by the demands of a club that often asks midfielders to run hard, press aggressively and cover large areas.
At Gangwon he became a steady K League midfielder, useful both as a central runner and as a connector in transition. He has not had the same international profile as Korea's European-based midfielders, but his domestic consistency made him valuable in a league where tempo and second-ball reactions are decisive.
As of May 2026 he remains with Gangwon FC. The club's recent rise in Korean football, including continental qualification periods, has given Seo a stronger stage, and he has continued to be used as a reliable midfield option rather than a pure specialist in one narrow role.
Seo's senior national-team involvement has been more recent and selective, reflecting South Korea's need to broaden the pool during a long World Cup qualifying calendar. He offers Hong Myung-bo and the staff a domestic midfielder who understands K League rhythm and can support more technical players.
Around 1.84 m, Seo is a right-footed midfielder with running power, defensive coverage and simple progression passing. He is closer in style to a hard-working number eight than a classic playmaker, with comparisons to Han Kook-young's industry and, in certain box-to-box phases, the domestic version of Hwang In-beom's mobility.
