Agustín Álvarez Martínez was born on 19 May 2001 in San Bautista. Peñarol developed him as a right-footed penalty-box striker with sharp movement and quick finishing.
Sassuolo signed him in 2022, but a serious knee injury interrupted the key phase of his European adaptation. Later loans, including Sampdoria and Elche, became part of a rebuilding process.
By May 2026 he was associated with Elche, working to recover rhythm and confidence in Spanish football. He is still judged partly by the high promise he showed before injury.
For Uruguay he debuted in the early 2020s and was seen as part of the post-Suárez-Cavani forward refresh. Injuries complicated that path, but natural finishers remain valuable.
Around 1.80 m and right-footed, Álvarez attacks space and finishes first time. His movement can resemble a compact Edinson Cavani when his explosiveness is present.
