Born in Ghana, Ato Ampah moved to London with his family at the age of seven and began his footballing journey in grassroots football before joining the Chelsea academy at under-11 level in 2016. He signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in April 2023, marking a significant step in his development through one of English football's most structured youth setups.
Ampah made his professional debut on 12 December 2024, coming on as a second-half substitute during Chelsea's 2024–25 UEFA Conference League league phase match against Astana. That season, Chelsea went on to win the UEFA Conference League, giving Ampah a European honour early in his senior career. A direct and pacy winger, he offers width and the ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations.
On the international stage, Ampah has represented England at under-18 and under-20 level, despite being born in Ghana and remaining eligible for the Black Stars. He made his England U20 debut on 14 November 2025 in a 1–1 draw with Japan at the Eco-Power Stadium.
In February 2026, Ampah made the move to EFL Championship club Stoke City for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-and-a-half year contract. The transfer represents an opportunity for Ampah to gain regular first-team minutes in a competitive second-tier environment and continue building on the foundations laid during his time at Chelsea.
