Caio Lucas Fernandes was born on 19 April 1994 in Brazil and developed as a winger in the Brazilian academy system before moving to Asia. His early professional life included time with Kashima Antlers, where he experienced Japanese football's tactical discipline and won major honours, including the 2018 AFC Champions League.
His move to the United Arab Emirates made him one of the league's standout wide attackers. At Al Ain and later Sharjah, Caio combined Brazilian dribbling habits with a more mature understanding of when to attack the space and when to slow the game. He became a familiar name in domestic title races and Asian club competition.
As of 2026 he plays for Sharjah, where he remains a senior attacking reference. Even as younger players have entered the UAE player pool, Caio's one-versus-one ability, diagonal runs and experience in decisive matches make him one of the most reliable wide options in the country.
After becoming eligible for the United Arab Emirates, he was called into the national team in 2025 for World Cup qualifying. His selection added another naturalized attacking weapon to a squad trying to return to the World Cup and build on a national history that includes the 1990 finals and strong Asian Cup campaigns in 1996, 2015 and 2019.
Caio is a right-footed winger who can play on either side, though he is particularly dangerous when cutting inside to combine or shoot. His balance, acceleration and final-third calm recall a regional version of Bernard or a more direct Everton Ribeiro, with enough experience to know when a match needs control rather than constant dribbling.
