Hidemasa Morita was born on 10 May 1995 in Osaka. He attended Ryutsu Keizai University, where he developed into one of the most polished midfield prospects in Japanese university football, before joining Kawasaki Frontale ahead of the 2018 season. He immediately became a starter in Frontale's title-winning era, helping the club to J1 League crowns in 2018 and 2020, the J.League Cup in 2019, the Super Cup, and the Emperor's Cup in 2020–21.
In January 2021 Morita moved to Portugal on a free transfer to Santa Clara, then in 2022 joined Sporting CP. In Lisbon he established himself as one of the most underrated central midfielders in European football — a tireless ball-carrier who defends, presses and builds attacks in roughly equal measure. He helped Sporting win back-to-back Primeira Liga titles in 2023–24 and 2024–25, lifted the Taça de Portugal in 2024–25, and started regularly in the UEFA Champions League across both seasons.
A tactically intelligent midfielder who thrives in a double pivot but can also play as a single 6, Morita has been central to Japan's midfield since his senior debut in 2019. He started every match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scored at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, and remains, alongside Wataru Endo, the structural anchor of the Japan setup heading into the 2026 World Cup.
