Lorenzo Pellegrini was born on 19 June 1996 in Rome and joined Roma's academy at age nine, overcoming a childhood arrhythmia along the way. He made his senior debut for Roma in 2015, but spent two seasons on loan at Sassuolo (2015-2017), where he established himself as a Serie A attacking midfielder before Roma exercised a buyback clause to bring him back on a five-year contract.
He has since become a Roma symbol, captaining the club for several years and lifting the 2021-22 UEFA Europa Conference League trophy — Roma's first major European title since 1961 — for which he was named UEFA Europa Conference League Player of the Season. He also captained the side to the 2022-23 Europa League final, lost on penalties to Sevilla.
For Italy he was part of the squad that won Euro 2020 and was a member of the Euro 2024 squad, wearing the number 10 shirt for the national team.
Pellegrini is married to Veronica Martinelli and has three children.
A 1.86 m attacking midfielder, he is a "tall, physically strong, yet agile, dynamic, energetic" player with strong technique, stamina and a powerful long-range shot. He is comfortable as an 8 or 10 and is regarded as one of the most influential homegrown Roma players of his generation, both on and off the pitch.
