Márton Dárdai was born on 12 February 2002 in Berlin, Germany, the son of legendary Hungary manager and former player Pál Dárdai, who spent the majority of his playing career at Hertha Berlin and later managed the club. Growing up in the Hertha Berlin environment, Márton came through the club's academy and progressed to the first team — playing for the club where his father is a revered figure — and chose to represent Hungary internationally rather than Germany, following his father's footsteps.
At Hertha Berlin, Dárdai has been a centre-back developing through Germany's football structures in a club with deep Hungarian connections given his family history. His exposure to Bundesliga culture from youth level — even as Hertha navigated relegation and attempted return — has given him a technical and tactical education beyond what the Hungarian domestic league offers.
For Hungary he is one of the most high-profile of the younger defensive generation — his family name alone carries enormous weight in Hungarian football, and his own performances in Hungary's youth and senior setups have justified the attention. He has been part of Hungary's squad during the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, the historic first qualification since 1986.
At 24 during the 2026 World Cup, Dárdai is positioned to be a long-term pillar of Hungarian defence. Alongside Botond Balogh and others in his age group, he represents the succession plan for the senior defensive positions that Willi Orbán has defined for a generation.
His profile will continue to be updated as he establishes himself further at club and international level through the 2025-26 season and beyond.
