Ramy Bensebaïni was born on 16 April 1995 in Constantine, Algeria, and started his professional career at Paradou before brief stints in Belgium with Lierse and France with Montpellier. He spent four seasons at Stade Rennais before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2019, where he became a Bundesliga regular over four seasons.
In summer 2023 he joined Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer with a five-year contract. He has been part of Dortmund's run to the 2024 Champions League final and continues to be a senior figure on the left side of the defence.
For Algeria he made his senior debut in 2015 and is one of the country's most experienced defenders. He was a key part of the squad that won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations — Algeria's first AFCON title since 1990 — and has continued to be a fixture in the Desert Foxes squad through subsequent campaigns, with around 60 caps.
A 1.87 m left-footed defender who can play as a left-back, left wing-back or centre-back, Bensebaïni combines physical strength, aerial ability, set-piece quality from the left flank and an aggressive defensive style. He has scored a notable number of goals from defence over his career, including from penalties, and is one of the most experienced North African defenders in modern Bundesliga history.
