Carney Chukwuemeka was born on 20 October 2003 in Vienna, Austria, and raised in Northampton, England. He came through the academies of Northampton Town and Aston Villa, signing his first professional contract with Villa in July 2020. He made his senior debut in May 2021 against Tottenham Hotspur, hitting the post shortly after coming on, and was named Aston Villa Academy Player of the Season that same month.
One of the defining moments of his early career came in the summer of 2022, when he featured in every match of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship for England, scoring in group stage wins over Austria and Serbia before netting in the 3–1 extra-time final victory over Israel. He was named in the UEFA Team of the Tournament for his performances. That same summer, Chelsea signed him on a six-year deal in August 2022.
An attacking midfielder capable of playing on the left wing, Chukwuemeka is known for his direct running and eye for goal in advanced areas. In January 2025, Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund took him on loan, and the move was made permanent in August 2025 — the German club clearly seeing him as a key part of their midfield going forward.
On the international front, Chukwuemeka represented England through various youth levels before switching allegiance to Austria in 2026, making his senior debut for his birth country in March of that year against Ghana, scoring in a 5–1 victory.
