Al-Fateh Sports Club is based in Al-Mubarraz, in the Al-Ahsa region of eastern Saudi Arabia. The club operates across multiple sports, but it is the football section that has defined its public identity, earning Al-Fateh a prominent place in the Saudi game despite spending much of its early history in the lower divisions.
For decades, Al-Fateh competed in the second and third tiers of Saudi football, winning the Saudi Second Division on three occasions before eventually earning promotion to the top flight. The turning point came in the 2008–09 season, when the club finished as runners-up in the Saudi First Division and reached the Saudi Professional League for the first time.
Just four years after winning promotion, Al-Fateh produced what many regard as a landmark result in Saudi football: on 14 April 2013, they clinched the Saudi Professional League title with two games to spare, becoming only the seventh club to win the competition and the first club from outside Riyadh or Jeddah to do so since 1987. That same year, they also lifted the inaugural Saudi Super Cup, defeating Al-Ittihad 3–2 after extra time. The 2012–13 side was driven by Brazilian attacking midfielder Élton, who claimed the Player of the Season award, and Congolese striker Doris Fuakumputu, who top-scored with 17 league goals.
The club has since established itself as a consistent presence in the Saudi Professional League. Their identity is partly shaped by their regional roots — Al-Ahsa rather than the capital — and by a local rivalry with neighbouring club Hajer FC, which has long added edge to football in the Eastern Province.
