Botswana Police XI Sporting Club was founded in and is based in Otse, a village south of Gaborone, the capital of Botswana. The club is affiliated with the Botswana Police Service, giving it an institutional identity distinct from most community or privately owned clubs in the country.
The club's most notable domestic achievement came in 2006, when they won the Botswana Premier League title — the pinnacle of club football in the country. That same success earned them back-to-back appearances in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds in 2006 and 2007, marking the club's only forays into continental competition at that level. Earlier, in 1999, they had participated in the CAF Cup at the first-round stage.
The club's history also includes an FA Cup triumph dating back to 1983, one of the earlier honours in their trophy cabinet, and a Botswana First Division North title won in the 2024-25 season, signalling renewed ambition after years away from the top flight.
As a police-affiliated club, Botswana Police XI occupies a particular niche in Botswanan football — a reminder of the broader tradition across Africa of state institutions fielding competitive football sides. Their identity is closely tied to their institutional roots, and their 2006 league title remains the defining high point of the club's history on the national stage.
