Kuwait Sports Club — widely known as Al-Kuwait or Al-Ameed — was founded in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait. While the precise founding year is not definitively stated in available records, the club rose to prominence during the 1960s and 1970s, when it claimed multiple Kuwait Premier League titles and established itself as one of the country's pre-eminent football institutions.
The club's first golden era coincided with the 1980s, when several of its players represented the Kuwaiti national team at the 1982 FIFA World Cup — the only time Kuwait has qualified for the tournament. That generation laid the groundwork for what would become an even more dominant period in the 2000s and 2010s. During this second golden age, Kuwait SC accumulated domestic titles at a remarkable rate, sharing the league's commanding heights with crosstown rival Qadsia SC in a rivalry that defined Kuwaiti club football for nearly a decade.
On the continental stage, Kuwait SC made history by becoming the first Kuwaiti club to win an Asian title. They claimed the AFC Cup in 2009, defeating Syrian side Al-Karamah 2–1 in the final, then added further AFC Cup titles in 2012 — beating Erbil SC of Iraq 4–0 — and again in 2013 against compatriots Al-Qadsia. No other Kuwaiti club has matched that continental haul. Through the 2020s the club has continued to dominate domestically, adding Premier League crowns regularly.
Kuwait SC's fiercest local rivalries are with Al Arabi SC and Kazma SC, fellow Kuwait City clubs, and with Hawalli-based Qadsia. The club also fields teams across more than ten sports disciplines, reflecting its identity as a broad sporting institution rather than a football-only organisation.
