Oman Club was founded in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and has grown into one of the country's recognisable professional football sides. Known locally as Al-Ahmar — Arabic for "The Reds" — the club has built an identity rooted in its distinctive colours and its place within the sporting fabric of the Omani capital.
The club's most celebrated domestic achievement came in the 1995–96 and 1996–97 seasons, when they finished as runners-up and then champions of the Omani League respectively, marking the peak of their league form. On the cup front, Oman Club have lifted the Sultan Qaboos Cup twice, in 1979 and 1994, with the latter arriving in the same period that saw the club competing at the highest level on the continental stage.
International recognition came most prominently in the 1993–94 Asian Club Championship, in which Oman Club reached the final, finishing as runners-up — a result that remains the club's standout performance in continental competition. They also claimed the Rovers Cup in 1995, adding an international tournament title to their trophy cabinet. A further AFC appearance followed in the 1998–99 Asian Club Championship, though they exited at the first round.
Oman Club plays its home matches at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, and also recognises the Royal Oman Police Stadium as a home ground. Beyond football, the club operates sections across multiple sports including hockey, volleyball, basketball, handball, badminton, squash and chess, reflecting its role as a broad community sports organisation. In the current era the club competes in the First Division League of the Oman Football Association.
