Koninklijke Patro Eisden Maasmechelen is a football club from Maasmechelen, a municipality in the Limburg province of eastern Belgium. The club's roots trace back to the Eisden district, and over the decades it has carried several names reflecting changes in identity, sponsorship, and regional ambition.
The club spent much of its history navigating the lower and middle tiers of Belgian football, often operating in the second and third divisions. A significant setback came in the 2004–05 season when, despite finishing 17th in the second division, the club was denied a professional football license and subsequently dropped to the fourth division. This forced restructuring coincided with a return to the Patro Eisden name — this time paired with Maasmechelen — and marked the beginning of a long climb back up the pyramid.
The defining moment of the club's modern era arrived on 20 May 2023, when Patro Eisden clinched the Belgian National Division 1 title — the third tier of Belgian football — with a 3–0 victory over Dessel Sport on the final day of the season. That championship earned them promotion to the Challenger Pro League, Belgium's second division, where they now compete. The National Division 1 title of 2022–23 stands as the club's sole major honour to date.
Rooted in a working-class, coal-mining community in Limburg, Patro Eisden carries a strong local identity tied to the Maasmechelen area. The club represents a region with deep industrial heritage, and its recent promotion has given supporters a taste of second-tier football for the first time in a generation.
