Carlos Melgar was born on 4 November 1994 in Bolivia and developed as an attacking midfielder in the domestic game. His early career was built on technique rather than pure speed, and he learned to operate between midfield and the forward line in the compact spaces common to Bolivian league football.
Melgar became widely associated with Royal Pari and later Bolívar, where he gained experience in bigger domestic matches and continental competition. Across those years he showed the qualities of a classic South American playmaker: receiving on the half-turn, combining in short spaces and striking from the edge of the box.
As of May 2026 he is listed with Bolívar La Paz. At that stage of his career he is no longer a pure prospect but an experienced attacking midfielder who can give the national team composure, set-piece quality and decision-making in the final third.
For Bolivia he has been used more selectively than the country's automatic starters, but his inclusion in recent squads reflects the need for technically secure midfielders around younger runners such as Miguel Terceros and Ramiro Vaca. He has been part of the broader 2026 World Cup cycle as Bolivia tried to add more creativity to its high-altitude home matches.
Around 1.70 m, Melgar is a right-footed attacking midfielder with a low centre of gravity and a preference for short combinations. His style is closer to a traditional enganche than a modern wide forward, and in Bolivian terms he resembles a more compact, less explosive version of Jhasmani Campos.
