Ederson Santana de Moraes was born on 17 August 1993 in São Paulo, Brazil. He began his development in Portugal after joining Benfica's academy in 2009, though an immediate path to the first team did not materialise. He spent time at Rio Ave in the Primeira Liga from 2012 before returning to Benfica in 2015, where he eventually established himself as first choice and helped the club win back-to-back league titles in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
In May 2017, Manchester City signed him for a then-record fee for a goalkeeper of around €40 million. He went on to become a central figure in one of the most decorated periods in City's history, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League in 2022-23, four EFL Cups, and three FA Cups during his time at the club. He earned the Premier League Golden Glove award in three consecutive seasons (2019-20 through 2021-22) for recording the most clean sheets in the division.
A composure-first goalkeeper with an exceptional range of passing and an aggressive, sweeper-keeper style, Ederson redefined expectations for the position in modern football.
At international level, he made his senior debut for Brazil in October 2017 and has earned 30 caps. He was part of the squads at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and won the Copa América with Brazil in 2019.
Manchester City remains his registered club on this fixture listing.
