Luis Fernando Haquín López was born on 15 November 1997 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. He developed as a tall centre-back in Oriente Petrolero's environment, where young defenders are often tested early against experienced domestic forwards, and his combination of size and composure made him a senior prospect before his twenties were complete.
Haquín's career has taken him through several leagues, including time in Mexico, Chile, Peru and Ecuador. Those moves mattered because he learned to defend in different rhythms: direct aerial football, transition-heavy matches and more possession-based South American systems. He built a reputation as one of Bolivia's most reliable central defenders during that period.
As of May 2026 he is listed with Al-Tai FC in Saudi Arabia. The move keeps him in a physically demanding league and gives Bolivia a defender accustomed to dealing with powerful forwards, deeper defensive lines and long spells without the ball.
For Bolivia he debuted as a young senior international and has accumulated more than fifty caps across Copa América and World Cup qualifying campaigns. He was part of the defensive core during the difficult post-Marcelo Moreno transition, when Bolivia had to rebuild identity, leadership and set-piece strength around a younger group.
Standing around 1.90 m, Haquín is a right-footed centre-back whose strengths are aerial duels, box defending and conservative distribution. He is not a high-risk build-up defender, but his profile resembles a Bolivian version of Carlos Zambrano: physical, direct, and most comfortable when asked to protect the penalty area first.
