Luca Zinedine Zidane was born on 13 May 1998 in Marseille, France, into one of football's most recognisable families. The son of Zinedine Zidane, he joined Real Madrid's academy as a child and developed as a goalkeeper rather than following his father's midfield path, learning the position inside a highly scrutinised environment.
He progressed through Real Madrid Castilla and made senior appearances for Real Madrid before leaving in search of regular football. Spells with Racing Santander and Rayo Vallecano gave him experience in Spain's professional leagues, and his move to Eibar in 2022 provided a steadier platform as a first-team goalkeeper in the Segunda Division.
After establishing himself in Spain's second tier, Zidane later joined Granada, remaining in Andalusian football and continuing to build a career defined by reflexes, distribution and calm under pressure. By 2026 he is no longer just a famous surname but an experienced goalkeeper who has handled the particular pressure that comes with both Real Madrid and the Zidane family name.
Internationally he represented France at youth level, including under-17 and under-20 football, before choosing Algeria, the country of his family's roots, after FIFA approval in 2025. His Algeria involvement came as the national team prepared for the 2026 World Cup, a tournament that marked the country's return after the memorable 2014 run and two missed editions.
Standing around 1.83 m, Zidane is not the tallest modern goalkeeper, but he is agile, comfortable with the ball at his feet and quick across his line. His profile is closer to a technical Spanish-school goalkeeper such as Kepa Arrizabalaga than to a purely aerial specialist. For Algeria, he offers a composed alternative in a goalkeeping group that also includes Anthony Mandrea.
