Nadiem Amiri was born on 27 October 1996 in Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. He came through the youth academy of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, one of the Bundesliga's more progressive developmental clubs, and made his senior debut for the club in 2015. He became a regular Bundesliga midfielder during his Hoffenheim years, attracting attention for his creativity, technical comfort in tight spaces and ability to operate as a number eight or number ten.
In summer 2019 Bayer Leverkusen signed him for around €10 million. His time at Leverkusen was marked by good individual moments alongside the challenge of competing in an exceptionally talented squad, and in summer 2022 he joined Genoa in Serie A on a loan deal before making a permanent switch. After his time in Italy he returned to the Bundesliga with 1. FSV Mainz 05, where he has been a creative option in the middle of the park.
At Mainz he has provided technical quality and creativity in a side that consistently challenges in the mid-table of the Bundesliga. His experience across multiple Bundesliga clubs and his Serie A stint give him a breadth of top-flight experience that few German midfielders of his generation can match.
For Germany he debuted in 2019 and was part of the under-21 European Championship winning squad in 2021, before going on to receive senior caps as well. His Afghan heritage — both parents are from Afghanistan — makes him one of the representative examples of German football's increasingly diverse senior talent base.
Standing 1.80 m, Amiri is a left-footed central midfielder whose combination of first touch, tight-space dribbling and ability to find teammates in advanced positions profile him as a classic German number ten adapted for the modern high-press era. His creativity and technical precision draw comparisons with a younger Sebastian Rudy or a more attack-oriented Danny Blum.
