Siyabonga Ngezana was born on 15 July 1997 in Sebokeng, Gauteng. He came through Kaizer Chiefs' development environment and reached the first team as a defender with size, aggression and enough recovery speed to survive the scrutiny that comes with playing for one of South Africa's biggest clubs.
At Kaizer Chiefs he accumulated major PSL experience and played in the 2020-21 CAF Champions League run that ended with a final against Al Ahly. His domestic career had uneven moments, but the combination of physical tools and age profile kept European scouts interested.
In 2023 he moved to FCSB in Romania, a transfer that changed the perception of his career. He became a regular centre-back, helped the club win the Romanian title, and by 2026 is one of the few South African defenders playing week to week in a competitive European league.
For South Africa he returned to prominence under Hugo Broos during the 2026 World Cup qualifying cycle. With Bafana Bafana seeking a stronger centre-back pairing, his FCSB development gave him the tactical discipline and continental experience needed to complement defenders from the PSL.
Standing around 1.91 m, Ngezana is a right-footed centre-back whose game is based on duels, aerial strength and front-foot defending. He can be compared to a rawer Siyanda Xulu in South African terms, with some of the aggressive stepping habits associated with Antonio Rudiger.
